Car Robberies in Belsize Crescent - UPDATE 30/8/10
We heard from a resident yesterday that several cars have been
apparently broken into in Belsize Crescent. Someone who just had
moved into number 8 called me this morning about it, their car have
been broken into as well. T
They called the police so the police knows about it.
Mugging at Belsize Park Tube, but robber was caught
A woman coming out of the Belsize Park tube station late
Fri 27th / early Sat 28th morning was robbed of her bag .. she
shouted for help and several other people coming out of the
tube station caught the attacker and called the police.
According to the police officer two of them "sat on him" until the
police arrived. One more off the streets (at least for a few days)!
THANKS to the Good Smaritans - UPDATE 30/8/10
BURGLARIES IN BELSIZE CRESCENT
There was a burglary on 16th August in Belsize Crescent at
around 8pm. A door was smashed down and a window broken.
The burglars (two young black guys) had been hanging around
SINCE 5PM and were seen having a drink on a neighbours step.
The neighbour saw them coming from the burgled flat and did
not alert anyone at the time.
They were able to smash a window and push open another
without anyone seeing them or at least no-one doing anything
about it.
Further burglaries locally
The police officer who came out to do the fingerprinting today
said she had just come from a woman's house where she had
been burgled two days in a row.
PLEASE be extra vigilant over the coming weeks
A result - one arrested - one still burgling!
The burgled flat owner managed to follow the burglars in his car
as far as Haverstock Hill and guided the Police to nab them. One
was caught the other got away.
WATCH OUT FOR THE MOPED MUGGERS
Unfortunately the scum on mopeds have struck again
and at 6 in the evening! This is now at least five violent
robberies in Belsize by the same two thugs.
As mopeds rarely carry passengers, it's not a bad idea
to be wary if you see one with two males onboard!
Please remain vigilant and contact the police if you see
anyone behaving suspiciously in our area.

Police in Camden are appealing for information and witnesses, following the latest robbery in a believed linked series, in the Belsize area, NW3.
The most recent robbery took place on Thursday 1st July, at approx.
18:15 hours. A 42-year-old woman was walking in England's Lane NW3, when she saw a moped with two riders drive past.
She had turned into Chalcot Gardens, when she heard a moped behind her. She was grabbed on her shoulder from behind by one of the suspects and began to struggle. The suspect punched her in the face and then got back on the moped, driven by a second suspect. The moped rode away and the victim later realised that her watch had been stolen. The victim sustained bruising to her face.
The suspects were wearing motorcycle helmets and casual clothing
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Strugnell, said:
“We believe this latest incident may be part of a linked series, all involving two suspects on a moped, stealing jewellery and other personal items.
There is a great deal of work currently underway to apprehend those responsible, though it would be inappropriate to comment on the exact nature of the investigation at this stage. I’d like to reassure the community that additional resources are present in the area, including officers patrolling on marked motorcycles. Catching these criminals is our top priority.
BT SCAM ALERT PLEASE PASS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY.
This came via a Belsize Viillage Resident
I received a call from a 'representative' of BT, informing me that he was disconnecting me because of an unpaid bill. He demanded payment immediately of £31.00, or it would be £ 118.00 to re-connect at a later date.
The guy wasn't even fazed when I told him I was with Virgin Media, allegedly VM have to pay BT a percentage for line rental! I asked the guy's name - he gave me the very 'English' John Peacock with a very 'African' accent - & phone number - 0800 0800 152 0800 800 152
Obviously the fellow realized I didn't believe his story, so offered to demonstrate that he was from BT. I asked how & he told me to hang up & try phoning someone - he would dis-connect my phone to prevent this. AND HE DID !! My phone was dead - no engaged tone, nothing - until he phoned me again.
Very pleased with himself, he asked if that was enough proof that he was with BT. I asked how the payment was to be made & he said credit card, there & then. I said that I didn't know how he'd done it, but I had absolutely no intention of paying him, I didn't believe his name or that he worked for BT.
He hung up, I Dialled 1471 & phoned his fictitious 0800 number - not recognized. I phoned the police to let them know. I wasn't the first! It's only just started apparently, but it is escalating.
Their advice was to let as many people as possible know of this scam. The fact that the phone does go off would probably convince some people it's real, so please make as many friends & family aware of this.
