Police warns of bogus tradesmen & nasty scams - Nov 11
Earlier this week an incident took place where a suspect knocked at an elderly person's house and claimed there was a water leak next door and he need some industrial dehumidifiers to stop the damp getting into his house.
The workman asked the elderly person for his phone number and told him the workman's boss would call him shortly. A few minutes later a man called claiming to be the workman's boss stating that he needed three dehumidifiers, each of which would require a £1000.00 deposit. The elderly man refused saying he had no money when the builder offered to take him to the bank. By now the elderly person was very concerned and hung up.The builders have not returned and the neighbour did not have a water leak.
On Tuesday 25th October at about 3 pm, a man (no description) knocked on an elderly gentleman's door in the Hampstead area. He said that he was working on the house next door and that he accidentally dropped a few bricks on the elderly gentleman's roof, damaging it. He said he noticed that there were also some tiles that needed fixing.
He asked for the elderly gents phone number so that his boss could call him about scaffolding. A man called Mr Davis of Skyline Builders, then called the elderly gent and said that they could fix his roof but would have to put up a scaffolding tower and would need £2000 cash. He said he could arrange for a taxi to collect him and take him to the bank.
Fortunately the elderly male declined.
Camden Council warns of bogus tree surgeons - July 11
Camden Council is warning residents to be on their guard against
rogue tree surgeons targeting homes in the borough.
The conmen have called door to door offering to carry out works that
day, informing people they already have permission. This has meant
unauthorised works carried out to protected trees and trees in
conservation areas - resulting in their removal or destruction.
If anyone is approached by an unsolicited tree surgeon please inform the
Council immediately and do not allow them into your home or garden.
The Council is also warning residents not to cut down their trees
without first checking to see if the tree is legally protected or in a
conservation area - these cover more than half of the borough.
Tree Owners could face substantial fines if work
is carried out without consent.
Please contact Camden Council on 020 7974 4444 to report a suspicious
caller or for further information or email env.devcon@camden.gov.uk
Tesco Belsize Village = the death of Belsize Village - May 11
Hoax or Not? unwelcome in any shape or guise! The posters around
the Village are either inept lies by Tesco's PR dept? possibly a spoof
by an action group or a warning to the community?
All over the country, Tesco act as predators who undercut local
stores deliberately and then put prices up after competition closes.
A huge Which survey recently rated Tesco as the UK's worst
supermarket, for quality, service and price.
I was preparing to welcome the Bristol petrol bombers, but this
appears to be an elaborate, pointless hoax. The good thing has
been the unanimous local response that we should fight tooth &
nail, lawyer & planner if Tesco ever do try to invade.

Belsize Library under threat again Apr 11
There is a grave threat of closure to Belsize Library on Antrim
Grove, as the Labour Councillors in Camden look to ways to save
money. It could even be sold to generate funds!!
Could anyone who is concerned, please email the Camden cabinet
member responsible for libraries Tulip Siddiq, telling her how important
the library and asking her to keep it open?

WATCH OUT FOR THE MOPED MUGGERS
Unfortunately the scum on mopeds have struck again
and at 6 in the evening! This is now at least five violent
robberies in Belsize by the same two thugs.
As mopeds rarely carry passengers, it's not a bad idea
to be wary if you see one with two males onboard!
Please remain vigilant and contact the police if you see
anyone behaving suspiciously in our area.

Police in Camden are appealing for information and witnesses, following the latest robbery in a believed linked series, in the Belsize area, NW3.
The most recent robbery took place on Thursday 1st July, at approx.
18:15 hours. A 42-year-old woman was walking in England's Lane NW3, when she saw a moped with two riders drive past.
She had turned into Chalcot Gardens, when she heard a moped behind her. She was grabbed on her shoulder from behind by one of the suspects and began to struggle. The suspect punched her in the face and then got back on the moped, driven by a second suspect. The moped rode away and the victim later realised that her watch had been stolen. The victim sustained bruising to her face.
The suspects were wearing motorcycle helmets and casual clothing
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Strugnell, said:
“We believe this latest incident may be part of a linked series, all involving two suspects on a moped, stealing jewellery and other personal items.
There is a great deal of work currently underway to apprehend those responsible, though it would be inappropriate to comment on the exact nature of the investigation at this stage. I’d like to reassure the community that additional resources are present in the area, including officers patrolling on marked motorcycles. Catching these criminals is our top priority.
